The superhero movie "Doctor Strange" is the 14th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
My 30 Second No Spoilers Intro
The villain, Kaecilius, played by Mads Mikkelsen, makes his presence known right away. He and his posse are in search of something, and they succeed in getting it, causing destruction along the way. Moving apart from that, we now focus on Dr. Stephen Strange, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, who is so confident and so cocky he performs operations while listening to music. He's even more arrogant than Tony Stark (if that's even possible.) As his love interest Dr. Christine Palmer, played by Rachel McAdams, said to him, "Everything is about you." But a significant life event sends Dr. Strange out of the hospital and into the tutelage of the Ancient One, played by Tilda Swinton. How does Dr. Strange go from wearing a lab coat to wearing the Cloak of Levitation?
Who Was Good, and Who Wasn't?
Everyone was great! I was especially impressed with Benedict Cumberbatch, who had to do the entire movie in an American accent and never slipped up.
What I Liked, and What I Didn't Like
What I liked: There are some Marvel actors I have the hots for, and one of them is Cumberbatch! Not only is he hot, but he's a terrific, award-winning actor.
What I liked: Rachel McAdams is a natural. I've loved her performances ever since I watched her in "Mean Girls."
What I didn't like: Some of the fighting scenes include rolling objects, such as moving buildings. It almost made me dizzy watching it.
What I liked: A black physical therapist in the movie tells Dr. Strange, "It will take me a while to pull the files from the archives, but if it proves your arrogant ass wrong - worth it." It's one of the best lines in the movie.
What I liked: The Ancient One makes many important statements. One of them is, "Death is what gives life meaning." I love that.
Who Will Like This Movie?
"Dr. Strange" is a good movie for people who want more than just your typical superhero theme. There are important concepts and life-changing lessons in this movie.
Rating?
I give "Dr. Strange "5 stars. (I'm glad I found a new Dr. Strange t-shirt (with its Marvel tag still on it) on the giveaway table at Escapade!)
