Catch and Kill by Ronan Farrow

My good friend [personal profile] ride_4ever is a librarian. So she could relate to me here.

I'm so happy to have a library card again, this time from the Lee County Library System. (I moved to Fort Myers, Florida, from Chicago, Illinois.) I'm also happy to have dove into e-books.

We all started reading physical books, and I used to tell myself that those were the only books I wanted to read. (I remember when Ride and I would go to the now defunct Borders book store. We'd find books we wanted to read, and we'd grab something to eat and drink. Then we'd sit at a table reading the books and eating and drinking.)

Well, Borders is gone, and my days of only reading physical books are gone. E-books not only save trees, but they save space in my home.

When I moved from Chicago, I left hundreds of books behind. My home in Fort Myers can only hold a certain number of them. I don't have books stacked up against the wall or in the corners or stored in the basement. (We don't have basements in Fort Myers.) The physical books I brought with me in the move are on bookshelves, and those bookshelves are FULL.

Today, many libraries, including mine, allow you to borrow books by downloading them onto your device. At my library, we can download 20 books at a time, and we have 14 days to read each book. (You can also borrow the same book again, I believe, if you run out of time.) I find that many more popular ones have waiting lists, but that's fine. I get myself on the lists and wait my turn.

Downloading books from the library also saves me money. I read a lot of books. So if I were to buy books, I'd be spending a lot every month.

I don't need to own the books I borrow. I just want to read them. Furthermore, books that I want to own (such as the classics) I own already. And if there's a book in the future that I HAVE to own, I'll buy it—no big deal.

Currently, I'm reading CATCH AND KILL by Ronan Farrow, THE 5 SECOND RULE by Mel Robbins, PARENTS WHO KILL by Carol Anne Davis, and MAKE YOUR BED by Admiral William H. McRaven.

I FINALLY started my fic writing. So far, I've got two chapters of my Book 1 up with many, many, many more chapters and books to come. (I post on either Saturdays or Sundays.) My series is the BLAZE series based on MCU and focuses on Natasha Romanoff. Please check it out, and please leave kudos (if you're inspired) and comments (if you're inspired)! Thanks!
We are living in strange times. So it should come as no surprise to anyone that I've felt confused about things. (Same for you?) For me, it includes whether I would keep up with my Marvel movie reviews and my other fanfic writing. I've also moved and started a new life in Florida. So things have not been business as usual with my living situation in that regard either. (Also, I'm going to (happily) be a grandmother.) But I'm still in contact with my friend [personal profile] ride_4ever who lives in Illinois, and I told her that there's a strong possibility that I would be getting back to my fanfic stuff.

Well, it's January 11, it's a new year, and here I am. I'm sorry I will miss everyone at the online Escapade event, but as a ghostwriter (my paid job), I spend too much time online as it is. I attended Escapade conventions to meet people and spend time with people the old-fashioned way.

I'll return to movie reviews soon. BTW, I recently watched DC's lasted "Wonder Woman." The bottom line? It sucked. DC has got nothing on Marvel.

But for now, here is my BLAZE series, Book 1.

Natasha Romanoff

Because I'm new to the fanfic world, I've got lots of research to do. Some of what I need to do will be tedious. But reading femslash featuring Black Widow is fun. This morning, I read an excellent erotic story by linnydefensesquad over at AO3 - The Warrior Captures the Widow. It's an DCU and MCU/femslash/crossover featuring Diana Prince aka Wonder Woman and Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow. It's definitely an NSFW. So don't read it if you work in an office filled with prudes. (Image created by WolfBlade111.)
I've always been a profic author, and I never thought about fanfic. But my friend of over 20 years, the Due South expert[personal profile] ride_4ever, got me interested in the fanfic world by introducing me to Due South. This past weekend, she took it a step further by introducing me to a fanfic con - escapadecon.net. My hopes while attending this con is that I would find something that would motivate me to get started in fanfic. Although I love watching Due South episodes and the more than hot Paul Gross, nothing I've seen so far inspired me to start writing anything slash related. However, during the Black Panther panel at Escapade 2018 fic author[personal profile] raine, at the end of the panel, mentioned that she would love to see a Black Widow/Nakia femslash. I thought, Wait a minute! I can do that. So this is where it will begin. My first fanfic and first femslash will be Black Widow/Nakia. Although femslash is not as popular as slash, I discovered that there's enough interest in femslash to make it worth my time. (After all, I'm not just writing for myself.) So not only was Escapade 2018 an excellent con to attend for someone who has never written fanfic and who has never attended such a con, the experience helped me to achieve my goal of finding a pairing that would interest me!
