Movie Review: "Ant-Man" (2015)

The superhero movie "Ant Man" is the twelfth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

 

My 60 Second No Spoilers Intro

 

Dr. Hank Pym, played by Michael Douglas, developed a shrinking technology, but in 1989 he resigned from S.H.I.E.L.D. because he felt his technology would fall into the wrong hands. "As long as I am alive, nobody will ever get that formula," says Dr. Pym. Fast forward, and Pym became the head of Pym Technologies. His understudy was Darren Cross, played by Corey Stoll. Cross was not happy with Pym for not sharing his secrets, so he forced him out of Pym Technologies with Hank's estranged daughter Hope, played by Evangeline Lily, being the deciding vote. Cross, after being obsessed with recreating Pym's shrinking formula, developed what he called the Yellowjacket shrinking technology, and when he invites Pym to the company to see it, Pym's fears are reignited.  Scott Lang, played by Paul Rudd, has just come out of a three-year prison term for breaking and entering, and he has a young daughter who he hopes to see again.  He becomes Ant-Man, under the tutelage of Dr. Pym.  Can he stop Darren Cross and develop a relationship with his daughter? 

Who Was Good, and Who Wasn't?

Everyone was good, especially Michael Peña.

What I Liked, and What I Didn't Like

 

What I liked:  During the 1989 scene, Agent Peggy Carter is in it, and it was fun to see what she looked like.

 

What I liked: The Latin music during the Marvel opening graphics.

 

What I liked: Luis, Lang's friend, played by Michael Peña, was funny and fun to watch.

 

What I didn't like: There's a lot of little ants in this film. It's not that I dislike ants. They're organized and great workers, but seeing all those little ants all over made me itch.

 

Who Will Like This Movie?

 

"Ant-Man" is a great way to learn about the origins of a character who will become one of the important members of the Avenger's team.

 

Rating?

 

I give "Ant Man" 4 stars. It's not one of my favorites, but it's a good movie.
