Movie Review: "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" (2014)
Cast: Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Redford, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan
Director: The Russo Brothers
The superhero movie "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" is the ninth movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
My 30 Second No Spoilers Intro
Steve Rogers, otherwise known as Captain America (Chris Evans), after waking up from his 70-year-sleep, is working for S.H.I.E.L.D. with Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) as its director. He’s still trying to get his bearings, and he keeps a notebook of things people have recommended he check out, such as Nirvana and Marvin Gaye. He teams up with Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) to take care of a mission. But Rogers learns that Fury has another plan. "I can’t lead a mission when the people I’m leading have missions of their own," Rogers says to Fury. All Rogers has ever wanted to do was the right thing. He is the quintessential "good guy." S.H.I.E.L.D. becomes compromised, and we meet the mysterious Winter Soldier (played by Sebastian Stan.) And what does Hydra play in all of this? Remember, we got introduced to Hydra (Nazi Deep Science division) in the first "Captain America."
Who Was Good, and Who Wasn't?
Scarlett Johansson has always been an excellent actress, but she’s especially good in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier." Along with her superb acting, you’ve got her fantastic power moves (I wish I could fight like her), and she’s incredibly sexy. Samuel L. Jackson is great in this too.
What I Liked, and What I Didn't Like
Like: There's an action scene involving Nick Fury that's scary and very well done, but they also manage to include humor in the scene.
Like: There's an elevator scene that's spectacular.
Like: Steve Rogers/Captain America's body is, of course, too perfect in this. I love it!
Like: It was so cool to see African-American Anthony Mackie in this movie. I don’t know who has and hasn’t seen the movie. So I don’t want to say much more about him. However, one of the reasons I love MCU movies is because they are diverse.
Like: The dynamic between Natasha and Steve. If I ever decide actually to write fan fic, there's stuff I could write involving Natasha and Steve specifically from "Captain Marvel: The Winter Soldier." It would be het, but there’s plenty of people who like het.
Who Will Like This Movie?
"Captain Marvel: The Winter Soldier" is excellent for people who love superhero/villain movies and extreme action and fighting scenes.
Rating?
I give "Captain Marvel: The Winter Soldier" Five out of Five Stars.
Final Words:
As always, stay until after the credits!
